Additionally, he was selected for the Disarming Disinformation Master Classes conducted by ICFJ. He had the opportunity to learn from some of the best in the field. This program provided him with an incredible opportunity to deepen his understanding of disinformation and enhance his investigative skills.

Apart from this, he attended the Climate Change Dialogue event organized by the MS Swaminathan Research Foundation. As one of 19 environmental journalists selected, he spent three days in Channi deepening his understanding of climate change issues, further fueling his commitment to environmental journalism.

Career

Assault

While covering 2017 parliamentary elections in Budgam, Kashmir, Peer Viqar Ul Aslam was held on gun point by a Special Operational Group officer of Jammu and Kashmir Police, and in an attempt to flee from the spot was badly wounded by stones pelted at the government forces in the area.

Activism

In 2016, soon after the killing Hizbul Mujahideen Commander Burhan Wani, hundreds of youth in Indian administered Kashmir were hit by pellets fired by Jammu and Kashmir Police and Central Reserve Police Force.

In response to the serious on-ground situation, Peer Viqar Ul Aslam founded Save the Eyes Foundation and reached to hundreds of victims blinded by pellets, providing medical assistance.
