Obed Lamy is a journalist and filmmaker based in Chicago. His short documentary, Once Forgotten (2021), won a Student Emmy from the Mid-America Emmy® Foundations and best Emerging Filmmaker from Fayetteville Film Festival. Born and raised in Haiti, Obed cultivated his passion for storytelling from his mother, who spent her evenings telling the vivid stories of her childhood during the dictatorship. His work explores collective memory and questions “silences into historical narratives”, bridging the gap between past and present. He has a knack for capturing intimate moments and real-life scenes as a vehicle into the humanity and dignity of his film’s participants. His work has screened at numerous film festivals, including the Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival, Bentonville Film Festival, and Toronto Black Film Festival, at the National Museum of History and Culture, and Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. As a reporter in Haiti, Obed has worked for newspaper and digital outlets, covering presidential elections, natural disasters and social issues. He has been a contributor to international media outlets such as La Presse.ca, Radio-Canada Information, and the Voice of America. In 2018, Obed co-founded Enfo Sitwayen, a multimedia platform focused on media literacy and civic education. A Fulbright scholar, Obed earned a Master's Degree in Journalism from the University of Arkansas and honed his creative storytelling skills with a Master of Fine Arts in Documentary Media from Northwestern University.

Violence in Haiti: 'I am outraged'
In Haiti, a wave of protests has paralyzed the country for a week, with the youth, including students, professionals, and the unemployed, at the forefront demanding change and voicing their grievances. Rony Célicourt, a 31-year-old Haitian affected by unemployment, expresses his outrage against corruption and poverty. President Jovenel Moïse, who promised improvements during his 2015 campaign, is now the main target of protesters like Alexandre Axel, who suffers from income loss due to the country's economic situation. Teacher and researcher Gesner Casséus feels marginalized and calls out the government's poor governance and corruption. Emmanuela Douyon, an economist and NGO worker, is part of the Petrocaribe Challenge movement, which has led to a damning report on the mismanagement of Petrocaribe funds by successive governments since 2008. The protesters, including young intellectuals, are pushing for a trial and proposing a new societal model based on social justice and dignity.
