New report reveals steady rise in demand for contraception amid global challenges

22 Nov 2022  |  www.ghanaweb.com
A new report released at a global family planning event in Thailand indicates a significant rise in the use of modern contraception in low- and lower-middle-income countries, with 371 million women now using such methods. This marks an increase of 87 million over the past decade. The report, presented at the International Conference on Family Planning, also highlights the resilience of women in obtaining family planning services despite challenges such as pandemics, conflict, and natural disasters. USAID has committed US$15 million over five years to the FP2030 partnership, which aims to advance voluntary, rights-based contraception. The report also notes the importance of family planning in achieving gender equality and development goals. Despite the progress, there are concerns about the potential rollback of women's rights and the need for sustained funding to meet the increasing demand for family planning services.
