03 Mar 2024  |  vg.no
Employees at Gullfaks barnehage in Stavanger, such as Cecilia Østrem and Madeleine Helmikstøl, are experiencing a four-day workweek where they work 80% but receive full pay. The initiative, aimed at improving work-life balance and reducing sick leave, is being researched by Rambøll Management Consulting. Stavanger and Oslo municipalities are conducting a two-year trial, with Stavanger committing to continue the project until 2024/2025. Despite budgetary constraints, the project is expected to proceed, with hopes that positive research outcomes will support its long-term adoption.

Having experienced significant loss, including the death of his father, Ludvigsen now faces unemployment, depression, and PTSD symptoms. His turbulent family situation and cannabis use led to humiliating encounters with the police, including random stops, strip searches, and a home raid after finding a small lump of hashish.

The next ferry you board might run on batteries

24 Mar 2018  |  Daily Herald
Shipbuilders in Norway are constructing some of the first ferryboats powered entirely by batteries, transitioning from fuel-guzzling boats for the oil industry to green technology. Havyard Group, which runs the Sognefjord shipyard, is focusing on battery technology and has 13 orders for zero-emission ferries. Norway aims to electrify two-thirds of its boats by 2030. The MF Ampere, operated by Norled, is the first zero-emissions ferry in Norway, running on lithium-ion batteries. Europe is making strides in electrifying shipping fleets, with battery-powered boats soon to operate in Norway, Belgium, and the Netherlands. However, to significantly reduce maritime pollution, the 50,000 ocean-traversing vessels would need to switch to renewable energy. The International Maritime Organization is set to release guidelines for cutting greenhouse gases, but battery technology needs further development for long ocean voyages. Electric ships are currently most viable in populated waterfront areas. Port-Liner BV in the Netherlands will deploy battery-powered container barges, and Kongsberg Gruppen ASA and Rolls-Royce Holdings Plc are working on automated and unmanned ships, respectively.
